The 2010 Adventure Begins!

On Saturday, June 12th we had a wonderful start to our trip in Portland where 27 members of our extended family on my side gathered to celebrate my dad’s 89th birthday. Such great people and too rarely gathered - folks flew in from Africa, California, New York, and Florida and drove from as far away as Seattle to join us. Just having our 3 kids in one place was fantastic, the rest was really delicious icing on the cake.

Mike and I flew from PDX at 5:30 am on Sunday, June 13th, had a quick layover in Phoenix, and landed (an hour late) in Cancun. We grabbed snacks and a bus south to Playa del Carmen where we had an hour to buy tickets and explore a bit before catching a bus south to Tulum, arriving around 8:30 pm local time.

Our hotel, Posada Luna del Sur, is just a few blocks’ walk from the station and it’s LOVELY, inside and out. The managers couldn’t be more helpful and we couldn’t be more pleased.

We grabbed a few snack and lunch items from a local market (mmmm…mangoes) and slept well and long. In the morning we picked up a rental car and had a wonderful breakfast at Azafran - my tropical fruit and yogurt crepes were heavenly.

Mike is currently off fishing and I have the afternoon to arrange for diving, explore to my heart‘s content, shop for dinner (and ice cream...or maybe a chocolate covered frozen banana...) , and relax. We are happy and grateful to be in this beautiful place together. HAPPY TRAILS!
